Sunrisers Hyderabad sets a new historical precedent by smashing the highest total in the Indian premier league on Wednesday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Under the captaincy of the Australian Cricket team skipper- Pat Cummins, SRH clubbed a massive score of 277 with just a fall of three wickets, breaking the record of RCB in the category of highest total in an inning.
The defending team Mumbai Indians register their second defeat in a row under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya.
The 8th match of the IPL 2024 was hosted at the home ground of Sunrises on 27th March 2024, in Hyderabad where SRH pitted against MI to bag their first victory after a terrible defeat by Kolkata Knight Riders in their first match.
The match started with MI winning the toss and choosing to bowl first. Both the teams created an unbelievable aura leaving fans enthralled by the raining sixes and fours.
The sensational Inning of Sunrisers, breaking all the records
In the first inning, SRH’s batsmen outclassed the fine bowlers of MI to muster the highest-ever total scored by a team in IPL.
Australian batsman and SRH’s opener Travis Head gave the team a quick start by knocking a good score of 62 off 24. Rallying behind him, the SRH star and the player of the match Abhishek Sharma finely surpassed the records of Head by an electrifying knock of 63 off 23 which also included towering sixes and blaring fours which left the spectators eyes in astonishment.
The fiery Sharma-Head partnership of 68 runs off 22 balls helped SRH to soar to such big numbers. After the fall of their wickets, South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen took up the onus to smoke 80 runs in just 5.6 overs with Aiden Markram in the supporting role.
The batters of the Sunrisers set the stadium on fire with their blazing 37 boundaries wherein they smashed 18 sixes and creamed 20 fours. Klaasen’s unbelievable knock left the MI bowlers flabbergasted.
The inning ended with a total score of 277 tumbling down the record of RCB as the highest scorer team in the IPL. MI’s bowling lineup was destructed terribly by the explosive knock of Hyderabad’s batters as they could not get a good number of wickets, the only bowler to turn out as economical was Jasprit Bumrah with an economy of 9.
Piyush Chawla, Hardik Pandya & Gerald Coetzee were successful in taking wickets for their team.
MI’s full-fledged yet unsuccessful retaliation
The second inning commenced with a sensational quick-fire initiation by the opening partnership of Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma. Both the players presented an exciting show of blaring boundaries- 4 by Rohit & 6 by Kishan. The fall of their wickets was followed by a smoky partnership of Tilak Verma and Naman Dhir which brought the one-sided match to a level where the results could not be foretold.
Tilak Verma completed his fifty and amassed a good score of 64 off 34 which brought his team on a good pace. However, this pace did not last longer as Jaydev Unadkat and Bhubaneshwar Kumar gave some tough balls to Hardik Pandya lowering his strike rate to 127. Pandya started his batting with a good strike rate smashing two scintillating sixes but was unable to give a preferable ending to his teams as he lost his wicket to Unadkat after being caught by Klaasen.
Tim David also pulled a sparkling show against the bowlers of SRH by hitting 3 sixes and 2 fours to get his total of 42 runs off 22 balls.
A commendable knock was seen by the batters of MI, but their efforts turned out to be futile as MI lost its second match by a score of 246/5, a good score but not enough to beat the towers of runs established by SRH.
Hyderabad’s bowlers too faced some difficulty in outclassing the batsmen of Mumbai but came out successful as Pat Cummins and Jaydev Unadkat bagged two crucial wickets each and one by Shahbaz Ahmed early on in the second inning. The SRH skipper turns out to be the most economical bowler from his team with an economy of 8.75.
IPL turned into a blockbuster celluloid
Both the teams together etched an unbelievable lip-biting showdown that broke many records such as the greatest number of sixes (38) hit not only in an IPL but in a men’s T20 league and also the highest aggregate in an IPL match, a massive total of 523 runs. The players turned the cricket match into an absolute cinema with some smacking cameos by the players.
