Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Saturday went skydiving at Skyhigh, India’s only civilian skydiving site at Narnaul airstrip in Haryana to mark World Parachute Day.
“To celebrate World Parachute Day, we had the pleasure of flagging off a new parachute this morning and doing a tandem skydive at Skyhigh – India’s only civilian skydive site at Narnaul Airstrip in Haryana. For a new and adventurous Bharat, the sky’s the limit,” Shekhawat posted on social media platform X.
Shekhawat emphasized the importance of promoting aviation to boost India’s tourism industry, adding that interested Indians no longer need to visit foreign countries like Dubai, Singapore, Thailand, and New Zealand to experience the sport.

Explaining the government’s focus on Goa and Madhya Pradesh as skydiving destinations, the minister said, “Skydiving in India is a huge boost to the adventure tourism industry and will significantly promote new tourism destinations. The government is working closely with Team Skyhigh to make sure (skydiving) is available and accessible.” across the country.
The minister also launched India’s first parachute aircraft, VT-SBS, a four-seater Cessna-182P Skyline, exclusively designed for skydiving, according to Shekhawat, and marks a new chapter in the Indian aviation and adventure sports scene
Skyhigh India facility Located just two hours from Delhi, this airstrip in Haryana is said to be the country’s premier and only international skydive. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is working to establish comprehensive regulations for air sports, especially skydiving, to ensure a safe and prosperous future for the sport.
Shekhawat also flagged India’s first skydiving aircraft VT-SBS. This American-imported Cessna-182P Skylane is designed exclusively for skydiving and marks a new chapter in Indian aviation and adventure sports. The first annual celebration of World Parachute Day takes place today (July 13, 2024) and repeats every second Saturday in July. The first World Parachute Day was announced by four organizations – the United States Parachute Association (USPA), the Australian Parachute Association, the British Parachute Association, and the Canadian Sports Parachute Association. The purpose of the event is to set a parachute record on the day and celebrate the exhilarating experience of the sport.
