The Sikh community is one of the major communities in India it is found in north side. Whenever we see people wearing turban, kada, orange kurtas, long beard and small KATTAR with them we recognize them as Sikh or Punjabi. Guru Nanak Jayanti is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, The founder of Sikhism. The Sikh community is 5 years older and was found at the time of Kabir Das period. It is 554th anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.

They are spread in many parts of the world like, U.S, Canada, America and many more. They are different from Hindu and Muslim community.

 

The festival

The festival has importance in Sikh community. People on this day worship the Guru Nanak and with devotion and hyums the religious. The holy book of. Sikh Guru Granth Sahib is which by the last guru. There are 10 gurus in Sikh community.

Two days Before the celebration of Guru Nanak Jayanti the Prabhat Pheris is practice. In this practice early morning they hyum the text from Guru Garth sahib and go around the localities.
The one day before nagar kirtan. As a devotion. The Panj Pyare, or five men carrying the Sikh triangle flag, Nishan Sahib, lead the parade. These practices are seen in the areas near of gurudwara.
Prakash utsava also observed this day.

The golden temple is also decorated beautifully. The procession passes through streets that are decorated with flags and flowers, people sing religious hymns in groups and play traditional musical instruments. The holy Guru Grant Sahib is placed in a palanquin and rickshaw. The parade is the show so braveness, power and skills of sikh.

In the month of Kartika on the day of Purnima 1406 Guru Nanak Dev was born in the Rai Bhoi ki Talwandi now known as Nankana Saheb near Lahore which is in Pakistan now. The Guru practiced different practices of religion with no discrimination and in equality.

He introduced the God of love by the religious.
He travelled in the various corner of the world which are Achal Batala, Baghdad, Multan and Macca. He visited ’nau-khand’ which is mostly Hindu and Muslim region, he also visited Ram Janam Bhoomi ‘Ayodhya’. At the age of 27 he spent 30 years of his life without his family. He went to Bengal and also wrote a book.
There is a gurudwara built on this birthplace, now in Pakistan. Guru Arjun compile the hyums of Guru Nanak dev in the book called Adi Granth.

The sick community has three principle the first one is Praying to the God. The second one is earning the livelihood with loyalty and honestly. The last one is whatever fruit they get after the hard work should be shared with everyone. Sikhs mostly cover their hair with turban and they keep long kesh as a religious practice. The turban is like cloth to them.

The time changed and many youngsters are not into this practice but on this holy occasion they cover their head with turban or cloth.
They keep langur for needs and needy and kada Prasad are given to the people visiting gurudwara. Cleaning vessels cooking and distributing Prasad is done as devotion and people work there happily and love.

OVERVIEW

Many government institutions are closed on this day. The festival is celebrated with spirituality and devotion. On the day of Guru Nanak jayanti langar and kada Prasad is auspicious. Many devoter not only eat there but also helps in the to prepare and help in distribution. They take care of cleaning. There is no difference in different caste and types and that’s why people don’t hesitate in doing such work of cleaning cooking distributing in gurdwara.
