Draymond Green and Reggie Miller entered this game in Game 2 of the NBA Preview
Green brought up Miller’s co-host Stan Van Gundy, who called Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving the best backcourt in NBA history, then responded that Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson liked this position.
“Speaking of Golden State. Stan (Van Gundy), your partner. Steph Curry and Klay Thompson are the best backcourt ever. I love Luka and Kyrie. Steph Curry and Klay Thompson are the best backcourt of all time,” Miller responded to Green, explaining exactly what Van Gundy said.
He noted that Van Gundy said he hadn’t seen a backcourt that could get a bucket at such a high level, and he agreed with him, much to the chagrin of Green and Charles Barkley.
“He didn’t say the best (backcourt) ever… He said two guards who can single-handedly get it. Can you name two more guards? Yeah, Steph, will you tell Klay that you’re just going to throw the ball (and he’s going to win)? On the level of Kyrie and Luka?” Both Green and Miller make valid points, although it should be noted that they are not saying controversial things.
Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson can be considered the greatest backups. Always Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving can be considered two guard who can score individually, the Warriors duo won a combined four NBA championships and did so with the best 3-pointers in history. This season, Luka and Kyrie are vying for their first championship So any talk of Doncic and Irving being the best backcourt ever is premature at best.
Are Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving the best-scoring duo in history?

Stan Van Gundy was not the only one who praised the pairing of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Paul Pierce called Doncic and Irving the best offensive duo in league history.
He explained that Luka and Kyrie are the best two scorers in the league individually, and a pair like them has never been seen before.”I said a month ago on this show that this is the best offensive duo – not in the back – offensive duo in the history of the NBA. When we talk about Kyrie’s skills, we already know. I’ve heard a lot of NBA players say he’s the best player we’ve ever seen, he led the league in scoring. You have two guys that can score 60 points, I think this is the best-scoring duo ever.”
The Mavericks’ Doncic and Irving have been a powerhouse duo, particularly in the playoff picture where Luka averages 27 per game 7 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 9.0 assists, while Kyrie Irving is averaging 21. 8 points 5.3 assists and 4.1 rebounds.
Doncic and Irving have also formed a strong bond as teammates over the past year. After Game 1, Luka showed Kyrie some love for his first-half performance and how motivated and inspired the rest of the team had become. Doncic and Irving could help bring Dallas a championship for the first time since 2011. Their performances will be crucial to the Mavericks’ championship aspirations.
