Just a few weeks after Zomato announced new changes by including the pure veg option for vegetarian customers, the company again came under limelight as a tweet about its delivery man went viral.
Soham Bhattacharyya an X user took to his social media account on March 28 to share a heart wrenching video of a delivery man wearing Zomato’s uniform sobbing and asking for assistance after the company blocks his account leaving him helpless just a few days before his sister’s wedding.
Bhattacharyya encounters this man in North Delhi’s GTB Nagar where he was found crying and went from person to person for financial aid as he hadn’t eaten anything to save all the money for the wedding which was around the corner.
The distressed delivery boy was seen breaking down in some heart wrenching photos shared by Soham.
“This guy’s sister’s wedding is in few days & @zomato @zomatocare blocked his account! He was sobbing like anything near GTB Nagar, going to everyone and asking for some money. He told me he didn’t eat anything saving it all for her wedding. Please make it viral if you can”, Soham explains in his tweet.
The post went viral in a short span with over 3 million views.
Further in his tweet, Bhattacharyya shares a QR and urged the users to help the delivery partner with some financial aid by writing – “If anyone wants to help this poor fellow please do. Though I am not sure how genuine it is but he was crying like anything. @zomato @zomatocare Please look into it.”
As the piteous pictures of the delivery partner surfaced on the internet like a whirlwind, netizens criticized the tech-food company for this unauthorized behavior.
How did Zomato respond?
The company replied to the post and quoted “We deeply value our delivery partners, and we understand the impact that actions like blocking an ID can have. Rest assured; we take such matters seriously. We assure you; we’ll look into this. Our delivery partners are as important to us as our customers.”
Bhattacharyya also stated that the boy has now resorted to Rapido as his account had been blocked by Zomato to make the ends meet in this time of need, Times Now claims in its recent article. Social media Users showed sympathy in the comment section and offered for financial help.
Aid offered
Just a few hours after sharing the QR, Soham has deleted the post as he explains that the required amount of money needed for the wedding has been collected. He also thanked the netizens for showing support.
He also asked the delivery boy to meet him after the wedding gets over and promises the social media users to keep them updated about the matter.
