“Moi Aussi” by Judith Godreche screened
French director Judith Godreche’s film Moi Aussi (Me Too), which features testimonies from victims of sexual abuse, won praise at the Cannes Film Festival and was screened on Wednesday at the opening ceremony of the Un Certain Regard competition. About 1,000 people helped direct her film with music, dance, and visuals.
“These individual experiences add to her own, underscoring their sadly universal nature,” – the festival said in its announcement of the film’s showing – “The Festival de Cannes thus wishes to give resonance to these personal accounts.”
Godreche has become a leading voice in France’s #MeToo movement, receiving a standing ovation at the country’s annual film awards ceremony in February for speaking out against sexual violence in the film industry.
“Moi Aussi” is a poignant short film that provides a collective voice to victims of sexual violence. It incorporates the stories of a thousand people anonymously woven into a narrative featuring Godrèche’s daughter, Tess Barthélemy.
Desi Representation in the Cannes Film festival 2024
If we talk about our desi representation then there is no one better than the OG Aishwarya Rai Bachhan. The actress, who has been walking film festival red carpets for over two decades, attended the screening of Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis on Thursday.
On the red carpet, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan slayed in a black-and-white Falguni Shane Peacock outfit with 3D gold embellishments. Away from the red carpet, she was spotted taking a stroll with the usual suspects and Cannes regulars, her daughter Aaradhya.
A video shared on her fan page on X (formerly Twitter) shows a smiling Aaradhya walking beside her mother.
Oh the way she swayyy’s.. so fire 🔥 😍 #AishwaryaAtCannes #AishwaryaRaiBachchan pic.twitter.com/TFOWo9XTy2
