Rohit Sharma has paid a glowing tribute to Rahul Dravid as India’s World Cup-winning coach begins a new chapter in his life. Former India captain Dravid became the head coach in November 2021 and his journey culminated on 29 June 2024 when India defeated South Africa to win the T20 World Cup and end an 11-year wait to lift the ICC trophy.
Dravid and Rohit joined MS Dhoni-Gary Kirsten and Dhoni-Lalchand Rajput to win the World Cup for India. Still, while the Indian captain will continue his role in ODIs and Tests, he will do so under a new coach with Dravid in place sees something else.
Rohit and Dravid have achieved great feats such as winning the Asia Cup, reaching the final of the 2023 World Cup and the Test World Cup, making India the most prominent in the ODI and Test groups.
Therefore, it was fitting for Rohit to open his heart and express his gratitude to Dravid, remembering the almost three-year tenure of the outgoing coach.
Rohit Sharma’s heartwarming words
“Dear Rahul bhai, I’ve been trying to find the right words to express my feelings properly, but I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to, so here’s my attempt,” Rohit said in a lengthy Instagram post.
“I have looked up to you since childhood like billions of others, but I was lucky enough to work with you so closely. You are an absolute hero of the game, but you left all the accolades and achievements at the door, and we stepped in as our coach and reached a level where we felt comfortable enough to tell you almost anything.
“It’s your gift, your humility, and even your love for this game, I’ve learned a lot from you and every memory is precious. My wife calls you my work wife and I’m lucky to be able to call you that too.”
