Specifying the survey’s objectives and scope:
Every Indian household, in both rural and urban areas, should be the subject of a caste-based survey with a defined purpose and logic for collecting data on their economic standing and other caste-related information. it helps in getting proper outcomes for the caste-based survey. This would support the design of the questionnaire, the sampling strategy, the data analysis plan, and the target population and help to make proper reservation and policies for them.
In a caste-based survey, the 4.6 million castes (or sub-castes/gotras/professions/last names) should be divided into fewer, more manageable groups using the data from the last census or surveys. Simple yes/no questions about identification as Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya (Bania), SC, ST, and other OBCs could be the first questions in the survey. This would assist in preventing mistakes in self-identification surveys that result from misspellings or repeated responses.
The survey should use trained staff who can respect the respondents and their privacy and use secure devices and methods to record and store the data. The survey should use suitable techniques and software to analyze the data and produce useful results, such as the caste profile of India. The survey should also publish and share the data in a timely and transparent manner and address any issues that may arise.
