Ramadan for this year started on March 11. The fasting continued for a month. The crescent moon was only spotted in two states of India on April 9 in Kerala and Jammu & Kashmir. Hence, only Kerala and Jammu & Kashmir will be celebrating Eid-ul Fitr today- April 10. The rest of the country will be celebrating Eid on April 11.
Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Brahmin, Egypt, Turkey, Iran, USA, United Kingdom, and other countries in the Middle East, the crescent moon was not sighted on April 8. Hence, Eid night was marked on April 9 evening.
Experts say that the moon sighting might be impacted by the total solar eclipse. Reports claim that the crescent moon might not be seen shortly after the eclipse- therefore, delaying the moon sighting of the crescent moon. The festival will be celebrated a day after the sighting of the crescent moon. Eid ul-Fitr or Ramadan Eid marks the end of the fasting month of the Ramadan.
Which Indian states are celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr today?
After confirmation of crescent moon sighting on Tuesday, Jammu & Kashmir and Kerela will celebrate Eid on Wednesday. Also with these two states Leh will also celebrate it Eid today.
Crescent moon was spotted in Kargil on April 9th, which means the pious festival of Eid-al-Fitr will be celebrated there on April 10, confirmed Kargil’s Jamiat-Ul-Ulama-Isnia-Ashria.
Bank Holidays for Eid
Banks in some states will be closed on Thursday on the occasion of Eid-ul- Fitr, according to the RBI holiday list. The crescent moon was not spotted in Delhi, Hyderabad, and Lucknow. Hence, Eid celebrations will be held on April 11. So, the bank holiday is observed on 10th April in Kerala and on 11th April the banks are closed for most of the states except Chandigarh, Sikkim, Kerala and Himachal Pradesh.
