In a pivotal stride towards fostering collaboration, the inaugural meeting of the Australia India Education and Skill Council (AIESC) was convened on Monday at the esteemed Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar.
This landmark event glimpsed the co-chairing of the proceedings by the distinguished dignitaries: Minister of Education, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship, Mr Dharmendra Pradhan; Australian Minister for Education, Mr Jason Clare; and Minister for Skills and Training, Mr Brendan O’Connor.

Minister Dharmendra Pradhan played a vital role as the co-chair during the inaugural meeting of the Australia India Education and Skill Council (AIESC) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
His participation alongside Australian Ministers HE Jason Clare, MP, Education Minister, and HE Brendan O’Connor, Skills and Training Minister, highlighted the joint efforts between the two nations in education and skill development.
Established in 2011 as the Australian India Education Council (AIEC), the council has now evolved to refocus its endeavours on fostering internationalisation, facilitating two-way mobility, and promoting collaboration within the education and skill sectors.
Notably, this marks the first instance where education and skilling initiatives have been amalgamated under the same institutional framework, marking a significant milestone in the India-Australia knowledge partnership.
Robust India-Australia Knowledge Partnership
Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan voiced appreciation for the consistent advancements achieved in multiple domains.
These achievements included the mutual recognition of qualifications, the formation of joint working groups, collaborative skill endeavours, dual and twin degree initiatives among higher education institutions, student exchange programs, internationalisation of India‘s education sector, as well as actions to resolve visa-related concerns for Indian students and research scholars, among other important matters, according to the official statement.
Minister Clare also underscored the rich nature of the India-Australia knowledge partnership.
In the meeting, both ministers meticulously assessed the collaborative actions in education and skilling. They regurgitated their dedication to strengthening knowledge and skilling collaborations, planning to enhance mobility, employability, and prosperity in both nations, according to the statement.
In addition to the event, they also held a bilateral meeting before the proceedings. Mr Pradhan expressed that the discussion was highly fruitful, additionally solidifying the collaborative ties and objectives of the two nations in the realm of education and skill development.
Bridging the Future: Australia-India Promises Collaborative Research and Educational Opportunities.
In a noteworthy development, Minister Dharmendra Pradhan revealed the exchange of five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between Australian and Indian higher education institutions.
These MoUs pave the way for collaborative research initiatives in critical fields, including agriculture, water management, vital minerals, healthcare, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and climate change.
These agreements are poised to create numerous opportunities for educational, research, and innovation endeavours. Besides, they will facilitate student and faculty exchanges, as well as twinning programs and dual degrees, thereby fostering a more robust knowledge partnership between the two nations.
Minister Pradhan emphasised the pivotal role of the Australia India Education and Skills Council (AIESC) in shaping a bright future for both India and Australia.
With its ambitious roadmap for the next decade, AIESC is poised to be at the forefront of advancing education, skill development, and collaborative research initiatives that will benefit both countries.
HE Jason Clare, Member of Parliament, underscored the importance of meaningful partnerships in education and skilling.
He brought to light the presence of 450 ongoing research partnerships between the two nations, a testament to the deepening collaboration. Clare stressed that associations at various levels, including governmental, institutional, and industry, will fortify the bond, benefiting both nations, as highlighted in the official statement.
Furthermore, the Ministers voiced their excitement regarding the upcoming inauguration of the University of Wollongong and Deakin University campuses at the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City).
They also acknowledged the collaborative research efforts between esteemed Indian institutes such as the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and top Australian universities. These developments reflect the commitment of both countries to fostering knowledge exchange, research, and educational opportunities, contributing to a brighter future for all.
