T20 World Cup: India vs Pakistan
New York’s Nassau County is beefing up security during the June 9 T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan due to the threat of terrorism. Despite state governor Kathy Hochul’s assurances that there is “no credible threat” now, officials are not taking any chances. Eisenhower Park Stadium in Nassau County will host eight matches, three of which involve India. India will also play a practice match against Bangladesh on 1 June.
Governor Hochul called on state police to increase security to ensure the safety of spectators. Although there is no credible threat at this time, I have ordered the NYPD to improve security and we will continue to monitor as the event approaches,” Hochul said on social media.
The decision came after a report highlighted that New York authorities are taking security measures in response to a global threat issued earlier this year by the terrorist group ISIS. K-Nassau County Police. Commissioner Patrick Ryder confirmed that a threat linked to ISIS-K was received in April, specifically the threats were aimed at the India-Pakistan match on June 9. The threats included references to a viral video calling for a lone wolf attack.
Commissioner Ryder assured the crowd of extensive security measures, saying, “This is the largest security operation in the county’s history. The safest place to be in Nassau County on June 9 is at the stadium. “Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman described the event as a “Super Bowl on steroids,” expecting large crowds, especially from foreigners.
Blakeman emphasized that the county has been preparing for more than half a year and is dealing with safety and health issues related to such a large event. He emphasized the district’s serious approach to all threats and cooperation with federal agencies, including the FBI and Department of Homeland Security.
India’s campaign begins with the 5th match against Ireland in June, followed by the highly anticipated match against Pakistan on the 9th of June and a meeting with the host USA on the 12th of June.
