PM Modi on Sunday held seven consecutive meetings on various issues, including a session to review the agenda of the new government’s first 100 days. According to sources, the Prime Minister also held a meeting to review preparations for the widespread celebration of World Environment Day (June 5).
The meetings were held at his residence just two days before the Lok Sabha election results were announced. Modi held a long brainstorming session on the agenda for the first 100 days of the new government as polls predicted a landslide victory for the BJP in the just-concluded Lok Sabha elections, sources said.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister chaired the first meeting to discuss the effects of Cyclone “Remal”. After that, he presided over another meeting to review the situation caused by the continued heat in the country and preparations for the onset of monsoon.
Assuring the states affected by Cyclone “Remal” that the Center will continue to extend full support to them, the Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to assess the situation and review the matter regularly to provide the necessary assistance in renovation works.
At least 36 people were killed by heavy rains and landslides in four of the eight northeastern states after Remal hit the states and brought normal life to a standstill. While 27 people were killed in Mizoram, including 21 in a quarry collapse in Aizawl district, four deaths were reported from Nagaland, three from Assam, and two from Meghalaya.
Lives lost due to landslides and floods and damage to houses and other properties in Mizoram, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura were also discussed. NDRF teams deployed in these states conducted evacuation, airlift, and road clearance operations.
It was mentioned in the meeting that the Ministry of Home Affairs is constantly in touch with the state governments on this matter.
