We’ve seen several actors endure physical transformations – Parineeti Chopra is the latest addition to the list.
She gained 16 kilos to play Amarjot, in Imtiaz Ali’s movie, Chamkila.
Podcaster Raj Shamani recently spoke with actress Parineeti Chopra on her transforming role in Imtiaz Ali’s film Chamkila. Chopra said that she gained 16 kilogrammes for her role as Amarjot opposite Diljit Dosanjh’s Amar Singh over a six-month period.
While it provided the necessary physical look for her role, Chopra said that the procedure had a negative impact on her general health and well-being. Prior to filming, she was in excellent shape, having followed a rigorous fitness routine.
However, the director thought she didn’t look the part and suggested she gain weight. She elaborated on her diet saying, she used to eat big meals and go to sleep which in turn causes her face to look bloated the next morning and have a double chin. She used to eat rice and roti in groups of three or four. Adding, “It was six months of extremely unhealthy eating.” She stopped working out and the lack of clean eating affected her mental health and mood very badly.
The consequences were far-reaching. Chopra remarked that her stamina entirely vanished as her muscle and strength deteriorated. Common problems such as bloating and digestive disorders resulted from a bad diet. Overall cardiovascular health may deteriorate if you do not engage in regular physical exercise and consume a balanced diet.
According to Goyal, sedentary activity mixed with a diet heavy in processed foods and trans fats can raise cholesterol levels, raise blood pressure, and increase the risk of heart disease and stroke.
Ultimately, she believed the approach was not at all healthy. But her passion for this movie just vanished the thought of looking overweight – she mentioned – this was the project she was waiting for ten years of her life. ‘People used to tell her not to do so (weight gain) and she even got huge backlash but her mindset was – nobody could understand her as she was doing it all for “her role” and she’s proud of herself for the sacrifice she made for her work.’
