NEET-UG 2024: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has attacked prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi amid the ongoing NEET-UG medical admission controversy, saying alleged examination malpractices have “destroyed over 24 million students and their families”.
The Member of Parliament then confirmed that he would be their voice in Parliament and promised to continue his concern to improve their future.
“Narendra Modi is not even sworn in yet and NEET cheating has destroyed more than 24 million students and their families. 6 students from the same exam center are clearing the exam with maximum marks, many are getting marks which are technically not possible, but the government continues to deny the possibility of a paper leak,” Gandhi said in a message to X.
Reiterating the poll promise to draft a law to deal with the paper leak problem, Gandhi said the old party had devised a “solid plan”.
“Congress has made a definite plan to deal with this ‘paper leakage industry’ which is being run in collaboration with education mafia and government machinery. In our manifesto, he said that we promised to free students from paper leakage by enacting a law at the latest.”
“Today I assure all the country’s students that I will be your voice in Parliament and strongly raise issues related to your future. The youth have expressed their confidence in India – INDIA will not let their voice be suppressed,” added Gandhi.
‘BJP government destroyed future of medial aspirants’, says KC Venugopal
Earlier, Congress General Secretary (Organizations) KC Venugopal slammed the BJP government for “destroying the future of medicine” and urged the Ministry of Education to conduct a proper investigation.
“First it continued in the exam despite a lot of opposition from many states, especially Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Now it is unable to manage it effectively and now we are seeing paper leakage at the national level. along with several irregularities, it creates anxiety about the conduct of the examination,” he added.
NEET-UG 2024 takers say results are mixed
One of India’s most coveted exams, the National Eligibility with Entrance Test (NEET), a gateway to medical colleges, has been mired in controversy. this week after several candidates complained about stamp inflation.
When the NEET results were declared on Wednesday (June 5), an unprecedented 67 candidates topped the list, six of them from the same exam center in North Haryana.
However, the National Testing Agency (NTA) rejected claims of discrepancies in results and irregularities.
It pointed to changes in NCERT textbooks and so-called mercy marks given to students for wasting time in exam centers as the reason why students scored higher.
“NTA dealt with such cases and opinions and the normalization formula framed and approved by the Supreme Court judgment dated 13.06.2018 was introduced to take into account the time wastage of NEET candidates. (UG) 2024,” he says. said in a statement.
“Loss of probation was found and such candidates were replaced with grace marks. So, the marks may be 718 or 719,” the statement said.
The Ministry of Education formed a committee to review the grace points awarded to more than 1,500 candidates. Several candidates alleged that grade inflation resulted in 67 candidates securing the top position, six of whom were from the same examination center in Haryana.
