Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday attacked the opposition Congress after they announced that June 25 would be observed every year as ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’ in defiance of the 1975 Emergency imposed by the Indira Gandhi-led Congress government.
In his official X PM Modi said, “On June 25 #SamvidhaanHatyaDiwas is observed as a reminder of what happens when the Constitution of India is trampled on. It is also a day to pay tribute to every person who has suffered the excesses of Crisis, which is the dark phase of the Congress in Indian history.”

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also posted a message on social media acknowledging the announcement of the center He said, “In the history of Indian democracy, the conditions created by the cycle of emergency and practiced repression are still fresh in the memory of the countrymen.”

Opposition hits back
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh attacked the Center against the announcement, calling it “headline-grabbing”. He also accused Prime Minister Modi of subjecting the Indian Constitution and its principles, values , and institutions to a “systematic attack”.

Congress leader Manikam Tagore also reacted to the announcement of Samvidhan Diwas, calling it a misleading tactic. “People will not accept such a policy,” he added.
Samajwadi Party leader Fakhrul Hasan Chaand said: The BJP government misused institutions and laws and many opposition leaders were worried. Crisis, whether declared or undeclared, is not suitable for democracy. It undermines democracy. If the Congress party cannot be forgiven for the Crisis in 1975, the BJP cannot forgive the situation today”.
RJD leader Manoj Jha said: “Look who is talking? They have destroyed the Constitution; they should hold a mirror before themselves. A few years ago, a day to commemorate the horrors of partition was announced but it was not done by talking about it. Indians will not accept your “gods” now.
In another attack by the opposition, JMM MP Mahua Maji said, “BJP which had raised the slogan of crossing 400 could not get 400 and had to limit itself to 200. INDIA alliance got the mandate that they got because the Constitution was in danger.
